CASE STUDY · RESIDENTIAL

Same neighborhood, same standard.

A second GAF certified replacement in Whispering Pines — different home, different roof color, same crew, same standard of work.

01THE REFERRAL

Word travels in Whispering Pines. A few months after we finished the larger roof replacement down the street, a neighbor reached out about their own roof — a different property, different style of home, but the same desire for a real install done properly, not a fast crew working through a checklist.

The conversation started the way the best ones do: "We watched what happened at the neighbor's house. We want that."

02A DIFFERENT HOUSE, SAME NEIGHBORHOOD

This home is a classic two-story brick colonial — covered front porch, white columns, a two-car attached garage, and a roof system that's straightforward where the first project's was complex. Two main gable planes, a secondary gable over the porch entry, and clean rake lines down both sides. No octagonal bays, no six-way hip intersections. Just an honest, well-proportioned roof on an honest, well-kept home.

That distinction matters because of what it tempts a contractor to do. Smaller, simpler roofs invite shortcuts: thinner underlayment, skipped ice-and-water in the wrong places, three-tab caps cut down for the ridges, flashing reused because "it still looks fine." A simpler roof gives a lazy crew more places to hide. We don't work that way on a sprawling estate, and we sure as hell don't work that way when a neighbor put their name on the recommendation.

Referral work raises the standard. Your neighbor is watching.

How Whispering Pines word-of-mouth happens
03TWO ROOFS, ONE NEIGHBORHOOD

Working two projects in the same neighborhood within a short window taught us something about how referrals actually work in Bellefontaine. Homeowners watch what happens on their neighbor's property. They notice how the crew shows up, how the materials get staged, how the cleanup looks at 6pm on day one. By the time we were back in Whispering Pines for the second job, neighbors were stopping by the driveway to ask about their own roofs.

That's the part of this work that's hard to manufacture. You can buy advertising. You can't buy "your neighbor watched you work and called us."

04WHAT WE INSTALLED

A full GAF certified system, same standard as the first house: tear-off to the deck, deck inspection and repair, FeltBuster synthetic underlayment, WeatherWatch ice-and-water shield in the eaves and around every penetration, and GAF Timberline HDZ architectural shingles in Pewter Gray across the field. Cobra ridge ventilation along the main ridge, paired with the existing soffit intake. New step flashing at every wall intersection. New pipe boots. Seal-A-Ridge cap shingles on every ridge.

The Pewter Gray reads cooler than the charcoal we put on the first house — a deliberate choice for this elevation. The white columns, white railings, and white trim wanted a roof with a bit more blue in it. Charcoal would have read too heavy against the lighter facade. Pewter Gray sits right.
